Evaluating Your Child’s Curriculum
While we can’t directly control the reading curriculum being taught in our children’s schools, we can hold a microscope up to their shortcomings in order to understand where extra intervention might be needed.
The Reading League’s website features Curriculum Navigation Reports, a library of detailed reports that allow parents and educators to see how their districts curriculum aligns with best practices in the science of reading. Though no perfect curriculum exists, these reports provide insight into the strengths and challenges of individual curriculums that are widely taught in public schools.
To use it, visit their website here and scroll down near the bottom of the page to Curriculum Navigation Reports. There you will find the full list of reports separated by curriculum. The website also features responses from the curriculum publishers themselves, which address TRL’s reports. To access these, click Publisher’s Response below each report.
